If you have a summer reading list, I’d love to recommend two books that have deeply impacted me: Remember Death and Remember Heaven by Matthew McCullough. And if you don’t have a reading list, these two short books would be a great place to start!
These books are not somber or morbid—despite their titles! Instead, they are honest, hope-filled reflections that challenge us to live with purpose and joy, keeping both this life and eternity in view. Remember Death helps us take seriously the brevity of life without falling into despair. Remember Heaven is a series of meditations that lift our eyes to the promised joy of the world to come. Together, they gently—but powerfully—shift our perspective toward the things that matter most.
Whether you’re in a season of smooth sailing or navigating deep waters, these books will encourage your soul and anchor you more deeply in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I pray you and your family are able to savor this summer—both in the moments we can enjoy here and now and in contemplating the eternal promises we’ve been given in Christ Jesus.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7).
