As July winds down and August approaches, the back-to-school buzz is beginning to build. Here comes classroom supply lists, carpool schedules, sports practices, and all the other rush of fall activities. But for a couple of weeks, summer is still here…Don’t let it slip away…finish strong.
Take time for one more slow morning with pancakes and pjs. One more late-night talk where a conversation goes deeper than expected. Surprise your kids with a spontaneous stop for ice cream or drive somewhere with a view and watch the sunset as a family. Take time to notice the good gifts from God that He gives us to enjoy. These are the moments that—over time—become the fabric of your family’s story.
One of my favorite pastors and authors is Paul David Tripp. He says it this way: ““Your story is not made in the mountains but in the margins—where the pages of your ordinary life are written.” (New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional)
Don’t underestimate the power of simply making happy memories. These gestures, small or grand, bring delight and joy to life. These are powerful ways to invest in the kind of connection that builds a strong foundation of trust, belonging, and faith and joy.
So here’s to soaking up these last summer days. Glorify God and enjoy Him forever!
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90”14).
