Holy Week

Posted on March 30, 2026

Christmas and Easter are historically the highest attended church services of the year. People come out of the woodwork to attend with their mothers and grandmothers even if they don’t make it a priority any other time of the year.

People are more open to invitations and conversations about Jesus at those times of year. There’s also a built-in storyline and set of scriptures attached to the holidays to help provide content and context.

I would like to encourage you in your homes and with your kids to lean into that built-in openness at this Easter season. This is a great week to have intentional times in God’s word and discussions about the work of Jesus on the cross. Whether your kids are littles or high schoolers, whether you regularly have family devotions or this would be the first–carve out some time this week together.

Maybe you could read through each of the gospel accounts of the last week of Jesus’ life: What details are the same? What accounts tell the story differently?  Maybe you could assign each child to investigate various historic details to fill in the gaps of terminology or practices that are unfamiliar to modern readers. Maybe you could compare and contrast the first Passover with the final Passover. What themes are the same? How is Jesus greater? And of course there are a variety of resources online and streaming videos to help tell the greatest, truest story ever told.

It’s never too late, or too early to start. Take advantage of this holiday week to spiritually lead your family and make much of Jesus Christ!

Have a blessed Resurrection Sunday.
