I read an incredible book this month that I have to highly recommend to you: It’s called The Power of Moments by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. If you want to be inspired to fill your your life with powerful, positive moments, read this book! It has application for every part of your life: family, school, work, everything.
Reading this book reminded me of some beautiful advice we received from a dear friend and mentor back when our family was young. He told us, “Make more good memories than bad.”
What a simple perspective. But with powerful implications.
Don’t just take whatever moments life throws at you. Create better moments. You don’t have to produce an extravagant memory every day, just try to move the needle a little more toward positive. Be intentional about turning the mundane into something a little better than mundane every chance you get.
Make pancakes. Plan a movie night. Play a game. Turn on music. Try a new recipe. Camp out in the living room. Read a story.
With relatively little effort you can turn a random boring Saturday night into a good memory. Pile those together and you’ll find you are making more good memories than bad and building a family life story your kids will (hopefully) remember with fondness.
