17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
As we continue our Summer Psalm meditation on Psalm 103, I am rejoicing at the contrast between these two verses and the two we looked at last week.
Man’s life = momentary and fleeting. God’s love = everlasting to everlasting.
All our human efforts and accomplishments may be as beautiful as a flower but they only last a brief season. What gives our fleeting lives significance? The forever love of God. He is a steadfast covenant keeper.
As I’ve been thinking about God’s faithfulness from one generation to another, it has made me so grateful for the generation before us, our parents’ generation, who prayed for their children’s children. Those prayers included my kids! And now I give praise to God for the faith of my own children, their devotion to Jesus, and their desire to one day raise up another generation who knows God and fears him and enters into the new covenant in Christ.
Thank you Lord God for your steadfast love to us! Even if we are faithless–you remain faithful! And I pray for the parents reading this today, that you would give them the wisdom and grace to consistently point their kids to You. That their children and their children’s children would grow up to know and trust Jesus and would become men and women who love and serve You amazing God. We worship you because:
