4 who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Our Summer Psalm 103 continues God’s list of benefits with these doozies.
Can I get a show of hands for those who have spent any time in “The Pit.” Maybe not quite The Pit of Despair as made famous in The Princess Bride but nevertheless seasons of life that felt like they extracted years of your life. “I just sucked one year of your life away. How do you feel?”
And I know that some of you are in that pit today. A pit of grief. Of broken dreams. A pit of mental illness or a terrible diagnosis. Maybe a pit of your own digging through poor choices, neglect or sin.
Please know that The Pit is not a long-term destination for you. It’s not your forever home. For those of us who’ve been there and back again, we can attest to the goodness of God that will get you out as certainly as He did Joseph, Daniel, Jonah, and Jesus.
And He won’t just drag you out and dust you off. You get the spiritual spa treatment. A crown of love and mercy. A satisfying feast for your soul that makes you feel 20 years old again. Unless, like many of us, 20 was when you were in the pit. Then he makes you feel a different, better age. 🙂
In the meantime, hold on, wait with endurance, believe by faith and bless the Lord
4 who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
