Same God. No matter what changes.

Posted on May 1, 2025

May always feels like a month of transition. The birds are singing, the trees are budding, and everywhere we look, life is changing. We celebrate accomplishments as the school year winds down and look forward to the slower summer days on the horizon.

It is during seasons like this that we are especially reminded how quickly time passes. One moment we are tying tiny shoes and packing lunchboxes; the next, we are attending award ceremonies and watching young men and women step boldly—or sometimes a little nervously—across a graduation stage into the next chapter of life.

As a church family, this month offers us an important opportunity: to remember the calling we have been given to disciple every generation. “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4). Our children and young people are not merely the “future of the church”; they are a vital part of the church today. They need to be seen, known, encouraged, and taught the goodness of God by those who have walked farther down the road of faith.

At New Cov, we are committed to focusing on “every generation,” because we recognize that every life stage brings its own transitions. Some are joyful, some are bittersweet, and some are painful. Maybe this summer you are sending a child to college, welcoming a new family member, caring for an aging parent, or navigating an empty nest. Whether you are eagerly anticipating a new season, adjusting to unexpected changes, or grieving a dream that seems to be slipping away, the message of Christ remains the same: He is faithful.

We do not walk through these seasons alone. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, walks with us through every valley and every hilltop. The Spirit of God is our Comforter—not only when we are hurting, but also when we are simply adjusting to the pace of a life that never stands still for long.

The hope of Christ is not just for the milestones we celebrate with photos and parties. It is for the ordinary Tuesdays when the house feels a little too quiet, for the whispered prayers over a child we can no longer tuck in each night, and for the moments when our hearts feel unmoored by change. God’s promises are true at every stage, for every generation.

This May, as we celebrate, reflect, and look ahead, let us also commit anew to the task before us: bringing the hope of God’s Word to every generation—our children, students, young adults, and adults of every age! Let’s encourage one another through seasons of change and remind each other of the steadfast hope we have in Christ.

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you.
Do not fear or be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8).
