Ever have one of those weeks where you just keep feeling like a loser?
That was me this week. Every single significant conversation I said something either arrogant or foolish or insensitive or downright rude. It was that old, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” thing and as I’ve meditated in my car or at my desk or in my bed I’ve been reminded yet again that my sinful heart truly is arrogant, foolish, insensitive and downright rude. I’m so grateful for the Holy Spirit that activates that conviction in me and makes me want to be more like Jesus. But it hurts to see how far I still have to go.
But then I remember God’s lovingkindness for His children—for me. Grace for every single time I mess up. Grace upon grace. Over and over. And that brings me comfort.
What’s your thing? What is that one thing that you just keep tripping over that has got you feeling like a loser? Feeling like a failure? Feeling helpless or hopeless? I just want to remind you, child of God: an unending supply of God’s mercy and grace and love covers you. Completely covers you. Never stops covering you.
Because God is love. It’s not something He periodically feels for you or something He’s obligated to do for you. Love is who He is. And His love is perfect. Always patient. Always kind.
Remember 1 Corinthians 13? Jesus is all of those things toward you at all times.
Not just on your good days. But on those days when it seems like everything you touch goes wrong. You know how I know?
Love…keeps no record of wrongs (1 Cor. 13:5).
He doesn’t keep a naughty list. He doesn’t hold a grudge. He’s not disappointed in you. He’s not tired of you. Think of the best dad you know. The things that make him a great dad—his patience, his wisdom, his generous spirit, his encouragement—just a teensy tip of the iceberg of your Heavenly Father’s love. So be comforted.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).
Side note: It’s so cool that verse doesn’t say as far as the north is from the south. Because if you’re traveling around the globe and you fly north far enough, eventually you’re going to be heading south. But if you travel east and keep going—you will never start traveling west. East and west never meet. At some point North touches South. But East and West? They are forever separated.
So even if you had “one of those weeks” I hope you know God always always loves you!
