On my drive in to work today I was listening to this song on repeat. It’s an oldie but a goodie yet I find it particularly timely given current events and our sermon series at church.
What’s your favorite song of all time? Chances are it’s not the latest song at the top of the charts today. Chances are your favorite song goes back a ways in time–that it’s an oldie but a goodie. It brings up deep feelings and rich memories that are powerful and meaningful to you. And I’d bet no matter how long it’s been since you’ve heard it, you can recite every word by heart.
This Sunday, Pastor Jay will be preaching a passage that contains the OG of all oldies! There is a song in our Bible that is both the first song referred to in scripture and the final song referred to in scripture. I like to think maybe it’s God’s favorite song of all time.
It’s called The Song of God’s Servant, Moses, and the Song of the Lamb. And here are some of the lyrics as recorded in Revelation 15:
“Great and amazing are your deeds,
Revelation 15:3-4
O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations!
Who will not fear, O Lord,
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
I hope that song brings up deep feelings and rich memories of all God has done for you. I hope it fills your mind with intense hope and longing for Jesus’ return. And I can’t think of any more powerful or meaningful words to learn by heart.
Come Lord Jesus.
