Hope. It’s trending.

We are witnessing a unique cultural moment. And I’m not talking politically. I mean culturally and especially spiritually. I have been reading and hearing for several years that we were on the verge of a Christian revival in America. From podcasts like This Cultural Moment in 2018 to Carey Nieuwhof’s Leadership podcast, I’ve been hearing that our Post-Christian culture was potentially on the verge of a new Great Awakening. From Asbury to Auburn, young people on campuses across the country have grown desperate for hope. They started looking for meaning in life and they are finding it in the gospel–by the thousands.

And it’s not just young people. Even in the midst of recent tragedy, we are seeing the gospel be proclaimed in powerful ways. In the last week, the gospel was unashamedly preached and broadcast to millions around the globe–from multiple high ranking heads of state. No matter how you feel about recent events or these leaders, can we all agree that to hear Jesus preached from those in the highest offices of the land is absolutely unprecedented and remarkable?!?

Those of us who faithfully follow Jesus Christ know He is the answer. We know He is king and that a world submitted to Him would be a more just and peaceful world. We know His way of love and forgiveness is the way to relationships that are safe and rich and life-giving. We know that accepting His grace and His sacrifice for our sin is the only way past our sin and the grave and on to eternity with God.

And we want everyone to find Jesus because He’s wonderful! And I don’t much care HOW they find Him. If they find him by reading a Gideon’s Bible in their hotel room or if they find Him by a worship song on the radio or if they find Him by coming to Fall Fest with a neighbor and then deciding to give church a try. There’s a ton of ways to find Jesus. I celebrate them all.

We are in a unique cultural and spiritual moment in our world. Literally everyone is talking about Jesus. I don’t remember another time like this. I am praying that every devoted Christian will lean into this spiritual movement and will join the conversation, speak with boldness, tell your friends and neighbors and family and coworkers about the difference Jesus has made in your life.

“One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (John 9:25).

“It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” (Philippians 1:15-18).
