I just read that the average cost of raising a child to age 18 in America is $245K! If that’s true, I literally have a “million-dollar family!” LOL. When we started having babies the last thing I considered was the long-term cost. I just knew I wanted to be a mom! And although I wasn’t thinking specific dollar values, in a way I did figure the cost: I knew having children would be so precious they would be worth every dime, every sleepless night, every sacrifice. The cost of following Jesus is similar. He is worth whatever the price. He is the treasure. He is always a bargain. Do we really believe that? He teaches His followers to count the cost—to acknowledge He may cost you everything. Everything. He may cost us our status among co-workers or family members. Our faith in Him may cost us our jobs. He may ask us to give more of our money to help others. Following Jesus may make you feel foolish among the wise of this world. Jesus costs us our strength when He asks us to be humble and serve. He doesn’t share honor or glory with others—Following Jesus means we give Him credit anytime we manage to do something decent. I’ve been asking myself – am I willing to pay that kind of price and in the end receive—Jesus? I believe He’s worth every dime, every sleepless night, every sacrifice. Then I looked and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive (MY*) power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise.” (Revelation 5:11-12) He is worthy! |
