Help!

Posted on November 4, 2025

Does being a grown up mean never asking for help?  I understand the desire to be independent and self-reliant.  We work hard as parents to give our kids skills to be independent and self-reliant. But still. Have you ever felt like adult life as a disciple of Jesus is asking more of you than you are capable of managing on your own?

Do you ever just want help?

You’re in good company. Here are some heroes of the faith, the circumstances they were in, and their prayers for help:

  • Moses–feeling overwhelmed and inadequate as a leader. Prayed for the Lord’s presence to go with him.
  • Hannah–struggling with infertility and major dysfunction in her family. Prayed for a child to dedicate to the Lord.
  • David–living in fear, instability and loneliness. Growing tired of waiting for God to fulfill His promises. Cried out in anguish for God to pull him out of the pit of despair.
  • Daniel–struggling to maintain his integrity and his worship in a culture of opposition and threat. Prayed thanksgiving to God.
  • Elijah–after a season of great victory he fell into a season of despair and wanted to end it all. Prayed to God to just let him die, but God refreshed him.
  • Jonah–in a dark and impossible situation with no imaginable way out. Prayed his faith in the promises of God.

There’s something to be said for rugged individualism. Take care of yourself and your family as you should. But sometimes we can become too proud or afraid to admit that we’re really struggling. The storms of life become too big to face alone! We always need to turn to God for help. First in prayer. But also humbly accept the support and care He provides for us through our brothers and sisters in Christ.

This is why small groups at New Cov are such a lifeblood to so many people. They provide a connection to people who can hear about your daily struggles and help you through prayer and practical support.

If you need help: either in joining a small group, or with some other struggle, please reach out to me and I’ll try to connect you with someone who can provide assistance.

We’re never too grown up to ask for help!
