This was “The Verse of the Day” in The Bible app one day this week:
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).
What an encouraging reminder. There are so many things to plan! Here’s just a few things that we might be making lists about or planning for this week:
- Financial plans
- Menu plans
- Exercise plans
- Professional development plans
- Anniversary plans
- Home improvement plans
- Christmas plans
- Vacation plans
Those are all good things. God gave us brains and wisdom to strategize. But in everything, it is a comfort to know that God has bigger and better plans than what have on our lists. I think it’s helpful to remember that–especially when our plans go awry.
Maybe, it’s not just bad luck. Maybe, God is accomplishing something behind the scenes that we aren’t even aware of.
Have you ever been running late for work and find yourself stuck in a line of traffic behind a combine? God love the farmers, but their equipment is slow! In those moments, I wonder, is God actually saving me from being in an intersection up ahead where a person runs the stop sign? Or maybe God is giving me an opportunity to practice patience and be grateful for the hardworking men and women who feed the world.
This week, if something on your list of plans doesn’t go perfectly, ask God to give you eyes to see where He might be at work on your behalf and for your good!
