I’ve never washed my hands as much as I have in the past three weeks! They are showing it too since no amount of moisturizing lotion seems to be able to soothe the cracks or restore them to normal.
We are living through unique times with unique opportunities. I hope we as Christ-followers don’t miss the opportunity to understand the gospel more clearly ourselves and to extend its hope to this hurting world.
The essence of the gospel is this:
- There’s something wrong with us.
- It’s going to kill us.
- Someone came and created a cure.
- Go to Him for the cure and He would love to give it to you as a free gift.
Ultimately, Jesus came to do for our souls what we are hoping our scientific community will do for our bodies. Find a cure so we don’t have to be afraid anymore.
Let’s use this time to remind ourselves, our kids, our parents, our neighbors, that in Christ we really don’t have to be afraid anymore. Really.
This week’s Bible Story will be the account of Jesus’ baptism. Jesus didn’t need to be cleansed from sin, but he set an example of baptism for us to follow: to remind us, and to show the world, that we all need to be made clean by God. And when we are cleansed by Jesus, we are given clean hands and a pure heart before God! What a great time to discuss sin, the need for cleansing, and the symbolism of baptism. Let me know if this results in someone in your home wanting to be baptized!
“Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of His salvation.” (Psalm 24:3-5).
Fear not,
